Interxion adds 167 new customers in 2002

Trend towards ‘carrier-neutral’ colocation sees Interxion triple enterprise customer base

Interxion, Europe’s largest provider of carrier-neutral data centers and managed services, has today announced a significant growth of new customers, cementing its position as Europe’s leading colocation provider. These new customers include Casema, G L Trade, Xscape Management Ltd, and Lambdanet. Established customers that have recently upgraded their Interxion contracts include Bourse Connect, Level 3, Tiscali and KPN.

These additions to its customer base means Interxion finished the first quarter of 2003 with a total of 450 European customers - up 167 since the beginning of 2002. Interxion also tripled the number of enterprise customers during this period. The end user market – including financial services companies and local Government customers from across Europe – now accounts for more than 15% of Interxion’s total revenue.

Interxion’s track record of attracting and retaining customers across all of its 20 European data centers in 11 countries is a strong indication of how near the company is to posting EBITDA positive and cash flow positive financial results. Customers have consistently cited the European-wide carrier neutral model that Interxion offers as being a primary reason for choosing the company. Growth has also been driven by customers’ increasing requirements to improve operational resilience and disaster recovery planning.

“Whilst 2002 was a bad year for most telecoms companies, we picked up many more customers, particularly from the enterprise sector,” said Anthony Foy, group managing director, Interxion. “End users have been opting for Interxion because we offer a level of resilience that is impossible to replicate economically in-house. Furthermore, our carrier-neutrality means enterprises have the option to switch seamlessly between network providers – this is reassuring to end users as they no longer have to gamble on the future of one particular service provider.
