Interxion To Invest in Sixth Data Centre at Germany's Largest Data Hub

FRANKFURT, 2nd November 2009 – Interxion, a leading European operator of carrier-neutral data centre services, today announced that, in response to consistently high demand for its services, it will further expand its capacity in Frankfurt by constructing a sixth data centre. Construction of the new FRA 6 data centre will increase Interxion’s total gross data centre space in Frankfurt to 15,000 m2. The facility will be ready for service in Q3 2010.

The majority of Germany’s Internet traffic already passes through Interxion’s five interconnected Frankfurt data centres, creating Germany’s largest data hub. The facilities provide failsafe infrastructure and direct access to over 150 telecommunication networks for customers who have a high demand for connectivity, including operators from the service provider, digital media, and financial services industries.

In line with Interxion’s strategy of building in resilient connectivity and facilitating customer communities of interest, the FRA 6 facility will be located on the same campus as Interxion’s other five facilities, creating a multi-site interconnected hub in which customers can connect quickly, easily and cost-effectively. FRA 6 will meet Interxion’s high standards of availability and security and support the latest generation of high-power-density server deployments. In line with Interxion’s energy-efficient design policy, free air cooling will be available as standard.

“The fact that we are building a new state-of-the-art facility, rather than modifying and upgrading an existing site elsewhere in the city, adds real value for our customers,” said Peter Knapp, Interxion Germany MD. “We can design and build more quickly and efficiently to address demand using our energy-efficient modular approach, while new customers can instantly leverage the unrivalled connectivity we provide across the hub.”

The Frankfurt expansion is the latest step in Interxion’s ongoing, customer-driven expansion plans, which now means Interxion operates 25 data centres across Europe. New data centre space is also currently being built and provisioned in Zurich, Paris and Dublin.

“We have a long and successful track record of providing best-in-class infrastructure in Frankfurt, and as the city is Germany’s Internet and commercial capital, it is not surprising to see sustained growth in demand for carrier-neutral colocation facilities,” said David Ruberg, Interxion CEO. “As in other geographies, our demand-led expansion in Frankfurt is supported by a recent IDC survey conducted in four key markets (NL, UK, FR, and DE) which showed that carrier-neutral colocation sector is set to grow at 23% CAGR.”
