Interxion up-grades its backup and restore service

Amsterdam - Interxion, the leading provider of carrier-neutral data centre and managed services in Europe, today announced that it has successfully migrated 150 European clients to the latest release of its secure backup service. New service features include enhanced support on Unix, Linux, Solaris and Windows environments, and support hot backups of Oracle 10g and SQL 8.0.

Since 2003, Interxion has been successfully selling its online backup service - Secure Data Service (SDS) - direct to end-users and through channel partners. Today, many European companies, ranging from small to medium sized businesses to enterprise customers, trust their critical data with Interxion.

Many start using SDS to back up their remote offices that were formerly served by local tape-drives. The increasing amount of data often strains tape-based backup systems and processes, especially when increasing number of tapes have to be sequenced in the right order and then removed off-site on a daily or weekly base. However, once the quality of service, efficiency, cost savings and disaster recovery benefits of the SDS backup are appreciated, customers often move the majority of data into SDS and add more systems overtime. SDS utilizes a pay-as-you-grow pricing model that does not require any up-front investments and eliminates financial risks for the customers, making it a compelling choice.

During service up-grade over 150 clients were up-graded without any unplanned outages. The unique architecture of SDS allows all new functionality to be instantly available to all existing as well as new customers in Europe and elsewhere. During the up-grade process all SDS software on the customer’s machines is automatically up-dated, eliminating the need for customer intervention.

Secure Data Service already supported earlier versions of Exchange and amongst others Oracle, Lotus Notes, IBM DB2, Microsoft Exchange 2003 and VMWare. SDS also has the ability to reconstruct a server from scratch, including OS, applications and databases, making SDS the most advanced remote backup solution in the industry.

”Our focus is on data security and fast recovery of customer data. Interxion Secure Data Service is the most advanced and secure data backup service available today. Our customers can be sure that if their systems go down they can instantly restore their backed up data,” said Anthony Foy, Group Managing Director, Interxion.
