Interxion London adds 13 MW of power to support ultra high power density solutions
London - Interxion, the leading provider of premium carrier-neutral data centre and managed services in Europe, today announced that it is up-grading their London data centre power infrastructure by adding 13 Megawatts of power grid capacity. The availability of the additional power is scheduled for the end of November 2006.
The additional 13 Megawatts of power will be distributed between 2,200 sq m of the already facilitated data centre space and 3,000 sq m that will be facilitated in the near future. The decision of Interxion to make significant financial commitment to deliver up to 3 kW per sq m was dictated by the fast growing demand for power coming mainly from the enterprises and systems integrators. The adoption of new hardware technologies, which dramatically increase processing power (and number of CPUs) per cabinet footprint, boosts power requirements up to 20 kW per cabinet footprint.
“Two years ago most of our customers required 3-4 kW per cabinet,” said Anthony Foy, Group Managing Director of Interxion. “This has changed, with more and more customers asking for 10-12 kW and some exceeding 20 kW per cabinet. This makes sense, as adoption of ultra high power density solutions can reduce the total cost of ownership by some 30-40%,” continued Anthony Foy.
All power supplies in the Interxion data centres are completely redundant, can be delivered through dual feeds and are backed up by the most advanced UPS systems and power generators.
