Interxion delivers peace of mind for the Irish Nursing Board
Online backup and restore service meets all legislative and business requirements
Dublin, 1 March 2005…Interxion, the leading provider of carrier-neutral data centre and managed services in Europe, today announced the supply of a managed online backup and restore solution to An Bord Altranais – the Irish Nursing Board. This secure, flexible and highly effective service ensures business continuity and peace of mind for the nursing board.
An Bord Altranais is the Irish statutory body responsible for the regulation of the practice of nursing and midwifery. It promotes high standards of education, training and professional conduct for nurses in Ireland. The Nurses Act of 1985 stipulates that all nurses who wish to practice in Ireland must be registered with the nursing board. With over 60,000 nurses currently on the board’s live database, it’s vital that the information held is fully secure and retrievable at all times.
The nursing board chose Interxion’s Secure Data Service (SDS) after experiencing problems with its legacy tape backup system and off-site storage. SDS is Interxion’s online service that creates fast, successful backups and ensures data is instantly available whenever the nursing board needs it. SDS is based on agentless technology that is activated and controlled by the nursing board. Backups are carried out in real-time over the Internet to a highly secure vault at Interxion’s data centre with128-bit encryption ensuring complete confidentiality of the nursing board’s data.
Noel Moloney, IT Manager, An Bord Altranais, said, “As part of an integrated business continuity and modernisation plan for our organisation, we wanted an intelligent backup solution that would enhance the safety of our data and meet our regulatory requirements. SDS allows us to centralise the backup and restore process across our entire network with data automatically backed up every night. The easy-to-use management console also allows staff to monitor or initiate new backups and restores at any time. “
“Tape backups could no longer give us the guaranteed levels of security we desired. After rigorous testing of Interxion’s SDS service, we found it to be simple, efficient and safe. It also delivers significant time and manpower savings as only data that has actually changed is backed up. With no investment in hardware and minimum training for staff, SDS is perfect for small to medium sized organisations that hold important data. We have complete confidence in our new backup and restore service from Interxion. This is important when sixty thousand nurses depend on the availability of our data,” continued Noel Moloney.
Anthony Foy, Group Managing Director, Interxion said: ”Since launching SDS last year in Ireland, we have experienced unprecedented demand for the service. Business managers have become very aware of legislative requirements that make them responsible for the security of their data. SDS is a cost-effective, fast and easy-to-use service. Our clients encrypted data is managed 24/7 by a team of experts at our world-class data centre. We are delighted that this service is providing peace of mind for the Irish Nursing Board and its members.”
