Petroleum Economist Limited chooses Interxion and partner Centric Telecom for online back-up and restore service
London EC1, 9 December 2004…Interxion, the leading provider of carrier-neutral data center and managed services in Europe, is to supply a managed online backup and restore solution to a Centric Telecom customer Petroleum Economist Limited, the pre-eminent provider of information and services to the global energy industries.
Petroleum Economist has selected Interxion’s Secure Data Service (SDS), a fully managed, scalable online backup and restore solution offered and supported by Interxion’s strategic partner, Centric Telecom. The new online system replaces an old tape solution which was unpredictable and prone to corruption, and will be more reliable in mitigating against data loss and enabling the immediate restoration of business critical information.
SDS is based on agentless technology, entirely activated and controlled from a customer command interface on the SDS management console. Backups are performed on a fault-tolerant, disk-based, high availability secure storage subsystem (Vault) that is located in one of Interxion’s data centres in central London. For additional resilience, data will also be mirrored at another location outside the City of London thus ensuring even higher safety and accessibility of data.
Many of the world’s leading banks, governments and major energy companies rely on the data provided online by Petroleum Economist. The real-time nature of the information provided means Petroleum Economist cannot afford to lose any data, even temporarily.
“In any business, particularly those subject to regulatory requirements or those that rely on digital intellectual property, it is vitally important to be able to restore lost data instantaneously,” says Anthony Foy, Group Managing Director, Interxion. “Dealing with short lead times, Petroleum Economist is a classic example of a firm with backup needs which have outgrown the resilience offered by traditional tape and in-house disk-based solutions.”
“SDS has proven to be a reliable and user friendly online backup solution that meets requirements of our most demanding customers,” comments Tom Humphries, Managing Director, Centric Telecom. “It is a cost effective option for Petroleum Economist as it is based on the utility pricing model where Petroleum Economist only pays for the amount of data they actually back up and no up-front investments are required.”
“We can manage the system via the Internet to ensure any lost data can be instantly restored,” says Peregrine Bush, systems advisor at the Petroleum Economist. “In our business it is crucial that we don’t go offline as it could have serious consequences for our core business providing data which our clients depend on in order to make informed and up-to-the-minute decisions. SDS is a scalable and economical solution that provides us with total peace of mind,” he adds.
