Interxion launches online backup and restore service in Ireland

Interxion, Europe’s largest and leading provider of carrier-neutral data centers and managed services, has announced the launch of its Secure Data Service (SDS) in Ireland. It enables businesses to simply and cost-effectively backup and restore important data using secure online services. It is supplied on a ‘pay as you grow’ basis, with no investment in equipment required - customers need only pay for the amount of new data that is backed up each time. This turnkey solution is supplied from Interxion’s secure worldclass data centre in Dublin.

Interxion is selling SDS direct to Irish businesses and is offering a thirty-day free trial. It has also developed a reseller programme to drive growth through strategic partners such as ISPs and system integrators.

Businesses need to take precautions to ensure that their data is safe, secure and available at all times. This need is driven by the increasingly mission critical nature of business data and new legislation, which are imposing ever-stricter data storage requirements. Interxion’s remote SDS enables companies to backup their data and live databases in real-time over the Internet to a specially designed and secure ‘Vault’ in Interxion’s data centre. This data is available for immediate recovery in the event of a system failure, virus, human error or disaster.

“Our online automated backup and restore service is designed for ease of use and to give Irish businesses complete confidence in the security and availability of their data,” said Jason O’Conaill, sales and marketing manager, Interxion Ireland. “Our innovative solution meets the needs of legislators and the expectations of enterprise. We are seeing strong demand from resellers, such as systems integrators and ISPs, who want to offer their customers new and better services. SDS helps these types of companies to deepen the relationships with existing customers, while at the same time, generating new revenue streams. Ultimately, SDS is winning most plaudits from the people charged with data backup, who appreciate the quality, simplicity and tape-free nature of the solution.”

Interxion’s reliable SDS software works by taking “snapshots” of the data to be protected. Only data that has changed is transferred to the vault, thus saving time and bandwidth. The vault is protected by five layers of physical security and certified to the highest standards. All data is encrypted to guarantee confidentiality. Interxion provides training and 24/7 support for this online solution.

Gartner Group estimates that only 50% of tape-based recoveries are successful. SDS removes the need for cumbersome, costly and often-faulty tape backup services which can lie at the root of unsuccessful data recoveries.

Interxion’s SDS is based on agentless technology, which means that everything can be activated and controlled automatically from a customer command interface on the SDS management console. For an additional layer of security, SDS users can also move non-critical or designated data onto CDs, DVDs, or tape cartridge for long-term storage, which can be shipped to the company, stored at Interxion, or transferred to another disaster recovery site.
