European SMEs sign up for Interxion’s offsite disaster recovery service
Interxion, through its strategic partner Centric Telecom, has signed up two new customers for its offsite data backup and restore service. Private equity firm, The Carlyle Group, and energy sector publisher, Argus Media, have both selected Interxion’s Secure Data Service (SDS) to bolster their business continuity and disaster recovery plans. Offered and supported by Centric Telecom, Interxion provides small-to-medium sized enterprises (SMEs) with robust and scalable data backup and restore solutions located in a secure offsite vault specially designed for optimal resilience.
The Carlyle Group signed up for SDS following a two-week trial and is now using the service to backup the 200 gigabits of data detailing corporate and real estate investments, generated in regional offices.
“A resilient backup solution is the backbone of our business continuity strategy - loss of information regarding any of our investments would be catastrophic to our operations,” said Darren Smith, regional IT manager at The Carlyle Group. “Without onsite IT support in all our offices, we opted for a solution that was quick and easy to get up and running and is backed up with 24x7x365 technical support. As the service allows us to centrally manage the regional backups from our London HQ we have cut management overheads whilst still remaining in total control of our backup procedures.”
Argus Media, which has 70 London based employees, turned to Centric Telecom when its legacy tape backup needed replacing. The publisher was keen to upgrade to a solution that would be cost effective, flexible, scalable and, unlike tape systems, not prone to failure.
“The nature of our business – supplying energy traders with daily trade prices and news – relies on instantaneous access and delivery of market data,” said Jim Hughes, global IT manager at Argus Media. “Our reliance on online data means we also need a real-time backup and restore service and SDS fits the bill perfectly.”
“Security is a key pre-requisite for businesses considering backing up their critical data across the Internet, especially for firms that store sensitive market data,” said Andrew Warren, finance director at Centric Telecom. “SDS guarantees a high level of security by encrypting data before transmission across the Internet, providing London businesses with peace of mind that their data is not at risk.”
Centric Telecom’s customers concerned with business continuity can backup their critical data in the specially designed vault hosted at Interxion’s secure carrier-neutral data center in London. Businesses are offered a free thirty-day trial of the service, to experience the ease at which SDS can be installed, managed and controlled in-house.
“Centric Telecom’s position as one of the UK’s leading independent broadband providers was critical to our decision in choosing it as a strategic partner for SDS,” said Anthony Foy, group MD of Interxion. “Businesses that sign up for SDS realise the importance of the speed of their internet connection and Centric Telecom offers a symmetrical broadband service, meaning data can be delivered over the internet more than a hundred times faster than with regular dial up – ideal for businesses that require data restoration within minutes.”
