Sterling Fluid Systems chooses Interxion to host its e.Biz sales platform and corporate extranet

Interxion, Europe’s largest provider of carrier-neutral data centers and managed services, has announced that it has been selected by the Sterling Fluid Systems Group to host Sterling’s e.Biz sales platform and corporate extranet. Sterling is a multi-national engineering company specializing in the pumping of Liquid’s and Gases for the Process industries.

Interxion is housing and monitoring Sterling’s network equipment based in its data center in The Netherlands and are also providing Sterling with flexible bandwidth to link its e.Commerce activities to its logistics operations based in Letterkenny, Ireland.

The Sterling Fluid Systems extranet is a self-service tool designed to support, facilitate and deliver engineering solutions to the Group’s extensive customer base. It also enables customers to place and track orders, as well as to gather information regarding Sterling’s product portfolio of Liquid and Vacuum pumps and systems as well as from their range of Engineered Valves.

The strict operational resilience requirements that underpin these mission critical services means that it is not cost effective for Sterling to host the e.Commerce activities itself. Following a review of Europe’s major colocation providers, Sterling decided to opt for Interxion’s equipment housing and monitoring services due to the company’s experience and expertise in this area, plus the efficiency and knowledge of its personnel.

“The introduction of the e.Commerce activities has allowed us to make considerable internal cost savings, whilst providing our customers with a more effective and efficient e-sales platform. However, we recognise that the quality of our online service is totally dependent on the uptime of our architecture,” said Graham Terry, Sterlings’ Group Systems Strategy Director. “We decided to host our e.Commerce activities in an Interxion data center as we needed flexible bandwidth, optimal resilience and the very best security. The service provided by Interxion was simply too complex to produce and manage in-house and the quality of Interxion’s staff made it stand out from the crowd.”

“Companies such as Sterling, which choose to place a core aspect of their business online, need flexible and robust IT systems to support their activities,” said Anthony Foy, group managing director, Interxion. “Interxion’s focus on security and reliability means that Sterling’s e.Commerce activities can be supported at all times. ”
