Multiple carrier access leads the way

A survey from Interxion , Europe’s largest provider of carrier-neutral data centers and managed services, has revealed that businesses increasingly cite access to multiple carriers as the single biggest factor when selecting a telecoms service provider.

Business and service continuity was found to be the number one concern for European enterprises, which has meant a significant shift away from the traditional telecoms model of companies committing to individual carriers. Enterprises in carrier-neutral sites are guaranteed service continuity and can make realistic contingency plans because they are not tied to just one operator.

Entrusting their telecoms provision to a carrier-neutral data center is considered a ‘business critical process’ by over 40% of respondents. Additionally, 26% of respondents cited European Internet exchange coverage to be the second most important factor when selecting a telecoms provider. Through its extensive data center presence, Interxion offers the most comprehensive access to national backbones and interconnection points in Europe.

“The days of companies having a direct relationship with individual telecoms operators may be coming to an end,” said Anthony Foy, group managing director, Interxion. “Our survey confirms that service continuity is the number one concern for businesses - independent managed data center providers such as Interxion offer real operational resilience because we provide access to multiple carriers. As companies become ever more wary about committing themselves exclusively to individual operators, we expect the carrier-neutral model to continue to be a popular alternative to the traditional telecoms model.”
