Interxion strengthens market leadership position with new funding round of €20m

Interxion, Europe’s leading carrier-neutral data center operator and managed service provider has announced a new equity funding round of €20m (£13m) from its current investors. This funding brings the total capital raised by the company to over €300m (£192m) and is designed to fund the company’s program of consolidation and growth, a process that has seen the company grow to the largest and most successful carrier neutral provider with 20 facilities in 11 countries across Europe.

Through a strong focus on customer service, innovative service development, and sound financial management the company achieved revenue growth of 350% last year, and has continued strong revenue growth through August 2002. Much of this success is attributed to revenue being generated from increasing number of cash flow positive facilities serving a broad set of customers, in turn creating an increasingly attractive environment for its customers and an ever more stable revenue stream. The focus of the company on corporates has seen the number of customers in that sector increase by more than 50% in the first 7 months of 2002.

Michel Boussard, Interxion’s CEO, said: “This funding is hugely significant. It shows further confidence and support in Interxion and its ability to achieve short-term profitability. Aside from providing another major step towards our goal of financial independence and allowing us to take advantage of new business opportunities, it shows confidence in Interxion from our investors at a time when competition faces financial challenges.”

Since the company was created in 1998, its growth has been funded solely through equity. The strategic decision not to attract debt distinguishes it from many of its competitors and has created the stable financial surroundings that allow Interxion to focus on the further developments of its services.

Interxion has built its position by moving quickly to capture new business opportunities in light of a changing marketplace and is now in the best position to take full advantage of further market consolidation. The company maintains a leadership position in the marketplace because it has the largest customer base (over 350). It is the only company with an established footprint in 11 countries allowing it to offer quality services locally and right across Europe.

Interxion has recently developed a number of strategic partnerships with other companies in order to address the ever-developing needs of this growing customer base. Interxion has been awarded the Suntone Certification across Europe and is an IBM partner in a number of countries. It has also established partnerships with Pihana Pacific Inc and Equinix Inc to offer its services across Asia Pacific and the USA.
